Jaw clenching, clicking, tight cheeks, or headaches that start at the temples are often linked to tension in the jaw muscles. Our registered massage therapists (RMTs) offer two types of TMJ massage to help relieve it.
A focused treatment where your RMT, wearing sterile gloves, works inside the mouth to reach the deep jaw muscles (the pterygoids and the inner masseter) that can’t be reached from outside. Many people with clenching, jaw locking or long-standing TMJ pain find this gives the most noticeable relief. Your therapist explains each step and checks in with you throughout.
A non-invasive treatment of the jaw, temples, cheeks and neck from the outside. It eases muscle tightness, can reduce jaw clicking, and helps with tension headaches. A good option if you prefer not to have intra-oral work, or as a starting point.
If you see a dentist for grinding or wear a night guard, massage can work alongside that care.
All prices include GST. TMJ massage by an RMT is usually covered by extended health plans, and we can bill most insurers directly.
Massage therapy is not a replacement for medical care. If your pain is severe, follows an injury, or comes with numbness, weakness, fever or loss of bladder or bowel control, please see a doctor first.
