Sports Massage in Edmonton

Sports Massage in Edmonton

Sports massage is a focused massage for active people. Whether you play hockey, run, lift, golf or chase kids all day, it targets the muscles you use the most to help you recover, move better and stay on top of tightness before it becomes an injury. Every session is with a registered massage therapist (RMT), and we direct bill most insurance plans.

Types of sports massage

  • Recovery (post-event): after a game, race or hard training block. Moderate pressure to ease soreness and stiffness. Best within a few days of the event.
  • Pre-event: a shorter, brisker session a few days before competition to loosen up, without leaving you sore on game day.
  • Maintenance: regular sessions during your season or training to work on tight spots and areas that keep bothering you.

What to expect

Your RMT will ask about your sport, training and any areas that bother you, then check how you move. A session can include deep tissue work, trigger point work and assisted stretching, focused on the areas that matter for your activity. Pressure is adjusted to you. Add cupping or hot stones for $25.

Who it may help

  • Hockey, soccer, basketball and other team-sport players
  • Runners, cyclists and gym-goers
  • Weekend athletes and anyone starting a new activity
  • People with tight hamstrings, hips, calves, shoulders or back from training

Prices

  • Sports massage, 60 minutes: $115
  • Sports massage, 75 minutes: $140
  • Sports massage, 90 minutes: $165

All prices include GST. Because it is done by an RMT, many extended health plans cover it, and we direct bill most insurers. Check your plan before you come in.

Frequently asked questions

What should I wear?

You will be draped with a sheet as in any massage. If we plan to do stretching, comfortable shorts can help.

How often should I come?

It depends on your training. Many active people come every 2 to 4 weeks, and more often around competitions.

Is sports massage only for athletes?

No. If you are active and want focused work on the muscles you use the most, it is a great fit. For general aches, see our therapeutic massage and deep tissue massage.

If you have a new or serious injury, such as a suspected tear, a fracture or swelling that is getting worse, please see a doctor or physiotherapist first.
