Lymphatic drainage massage (LDM) is a very gentle, rhythmic massage that encourages the body’s lymphatic system to move extra fluid out of swollen tissue. It is most often used after surgery, especially cosmetic surgery, and by people who simply feel puffy or heavy. Every session is with a registered massage therapist (RMT).
LDM uses very light, slow, stretching strokes on the skin rather than deep pressure on muscles. It is calming and should never be painful. Your RMT works in a set order, usually starting at the neck, to help fluid drain toward the lymph nodes.
Always follow your surgeon’s advice. Many surgeons recommend starting lymphatic massage a few days to a week after surgery, but this depends on your procedure. Please bring any instructions from your surgeon to your first visit, and keep wearing your compression garment as directed.
All prices include GST. Because LDM is done by an RMT, many extended health plans cover it, and we direct bill most insurers. Check your plan before you come in.
It depends on your procedure and how your body heals. Many people come several times in the first few weeks, which is why we offer 5-session packages. Your RMT will suggest a plan.
You will be draped with a sheet as in any massage. If you wear a compression garment, bring it so you can put it back on right after your session.

Lymphatic drainage massage is not suitable for everyone. If you have an active infection, a fever, a blood clot, heart or kidney problems, or untreated cancer, please check with your doctor first. Tell us if you notice new redness, heat or calf pain.
