Wood therapy (sometimes called maderotherapy) is a massage done with smooth wooden tools such as rollers, cups and contoured boards. The tools let your therapist apply firm, even pressure over larger areas, and many clients enjoy it as part of a body-contouring routine. At Live Balanced, wood therapy is offered by our registered massage therapists (RMTs), often together with lymphatic drainage massage.
Wood therapy can leave skin looking smoother and feeling firmer, and many people like how their body feels afterward. Changes in the look of cellulite are usually temporary and work best with regular sessions, movement and a healthy routine. Wood therapy does not remove fat on its own.

Usually not right away. In the early weeks after surgery we use gentle lymphatic drainage, then add wood therapy once your surgeon says firmer pressure is okay.
Wood therapy should not bruise. Tell your therapist if anything feels too strong. If you bruise easily or take blood thinners, let us know before your session.
For body-contouring goals, many clients book weekly for a few weeks, then less often.
Wood therapy is not recommended over varicose veins, broken skin, recent injuries, or during pregnancy. Please tell your therapist about any health conditions.
